Welcome to week 2 of Friday Favorites. This is such a fun post to do because I feel like I just get to hang out with you all and share what I’m loving. This week’s crush is black+white buffalo check.
My love for black+white goes waaaaayy back. As a teenager, I wanted a black+white room. I had a vision and I was determined to carry it out. My parents thought it was a little over the top, but they allowed me express my creativity. I had white walls, black trim, black and white peel and stick checkered floor, and black and white stripes painted on my bi-fold closet doors. Yes, even from a young age, I have loved design and decor. I’m just not sure why it has taken me so many years to follow my passion.
My love for buffalo check is a little more recent and was inspired by several ladies that I follow on Instagram. A new hashtag on Instagram, #BuffaloCheckThisOut, has contributed to my current obsession. Come along and crush with me as I share a few favorites…
Doesn’t that make you want to add buffalo check to every room of your house!? These ladies are so talented and they all have beautiful Instagram feeds. You will definitely want to follow them, if you are not already.
All of my favorite stores are starting to carry the black+white buffalo check. Etsy has some of the cutest buffalo check pillows, table runners and napkins. The best part about shopping on Etsy is that you are helping to support small businesses. You can also find buffalo check pieces at Hobby Lobby, Kirkland’s, Target, and Pier 1.
These cute pillows came from Kirkland’s a few weeks ago and I styled them for a cute fall display in front of my fireplace. These sold out pretty quickly, but I found some similar ones on Amazon. This adorable Amazing Grace sign is from my friend Kari at The Farmhouse Addict. Kari just opened her Etsy shop and I couldn’t be more excited for her!
Black & White buffalo check is a modern farmhouse decor staple. It is also the perfect decor for the holidays, especially the black & red buffalo check. There is something about that look that is just so warm and cozy for the fall and winter months. For even more inspiration, you can follow along on my Buffalo Check Pinterest Board.
The trick with buffalo check is not to go overboard with it. You just want to add a few accent pieces to create the perfect look.

Heather, this post makes me so happy! I am LOVING the black and white buffalo check too! Saw those things at Hobby Lobby yesterday and wanted to buy them so bad. Now I’m thinking I may have to go back for some of it! 🙂
Love this post! I have a question about paint. what color of greige paint goes the best with the buffalo check? I am needing a light greige color for my living/dining/kitchen walls. All of which have very little natural light. any advice?
Thank you, Ruth! My favorite is Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams. It is light and has a gray undertone. I used this in my son’s bedroom. I also like Requisite Gray by Sherwin Williams, if you are wanting a more tan/brown undertone. I think both would go great with buffalo check!
I’m loving all of this!! Now I’m feeling the need to redecorate! Everything looks so cozy and pulled together. So pretty!!
Love Love LOOOOOOOVE this! Like all of this. Like might be buying all these things. I’ve been wanting those pillows for like a month!

Aww, thanks girl!! I’m crushing on it pretty hard as well. ❤️
I love this post. Those ladies are amazing for sure. Love all the pics. Need me some buffalo check now!
Thank you so much, Wendy! I agree.. they are such an inspiration. They are the reason I had to go out and buy buffalo check. 😉
How do I make and order?
Hi Theresa. What are you trying to order?
This whole post is so adorable. I NEED this in my house now! Great job!
Hello,
Where did you get your “southern” sign?? I love it! Thank you! The Lord has blessed you with such talent!
Allison
Hi Allison. Thanks so much, but I can’t take credit for the photo with the Southern Sign. That actually belongs to Kayla at Around the River Bend. Isn’t it beautiful! The Southern sign is from an Esty shop called Little Touch of Heaven. Here is the link for you convenience http://shrsl.com/t6tu Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a blessed day! 🙂
Love the sign “give it to God and go to bed”.
Where can I find one?
Isn’t it cute! I’ve seen them on Etsy before if you want to check there.
Where did you get the black rectangular pillow on the bed? It’s in front of the black, white buffalo plaid pillow. I need one for the front of my pillow.
Hi Cher! I believe it came from Bed, Bath & Beyond.
I know I’m late to post, but just saw this! Black and white anything, but especially buffalo check, is my absolute favorite! As a designer, do you think it will just be a trend or is it classic? I collect MacKenzie Childs Courtly Check enamel pieces and decorate all over my home with them. Love your blog! May I ask you a question? I’m a teacher and have been trying to put together some tech things for my students. Do you mind if I ask what program you used to put together the list with the black and white items with the numbers on them? I let them use Canva in the library in the makerspace, but I don’t know how to teach them to do this. Thank you in advance and thanks for this beautiful post!
Thanks so much, Deborah! I believe that black and white is a classic design that will be loved forever; however, the buffalo check pattern may just be a trend. I guess it just depends on each person’s individual style. It’s definitely be on trend for the last few years, especially around the holidays. I used PicMonkey to create the graphic. It’s very similar to Canva, but I find it more user friendly. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for stopping by!! 🙂
Thank you so much, Heather!
What color are the pillows on the twin beds ?
They look great with black and white !
Hi Ann. I’m not sure what color the pillows are. That photo belongs to Margy @theoldhouseonmain on Instagram. I’m sure you could reach out to her and she’d be happy to answer.
