Hi there friends! I’m here to share something really cool that I did over my windows that added so much charm. It’s a DIY window accessory garland that I’ve been wanting to do for what seems like forevvverrrr. And I finally did it! But before I get started on that, I wanted to share a sweet momma moment with you first.
Last night, I was tucking my middle son in bed. He’s eleven and still asks to be tucked in every single night. It melts this momma’s heart! When I walked into his room, I could tell that he was upset. With tear filled eyes, he said, “momma, I need to tell you something, but I don’t know how to tell you because it’s going to hurt your feelings.” I explained to him a momma’s unconditional love and that nothing he could ever say would make me love him any less. And even though it may hurt my feelings, it wouldn’t change my love for him.
My heart was pounding in anticipation of what I might hear. A thousand thoughts went through my head. He continued to cry and hesitated to say anything. He just kept saying that he didn’t want to hurt my feelings. At this point, I desperately wanted to hear his heart, but I also wanted to be supportive of his feelings. I told him that if he wasn’t ready to tell me, He could pray about it and tell me when he was ready. He responded with, “I HAVE to tell you tonight.”
Shortly before this, he lost a tooth. He’s lost about 5 teeth in the last month, so the tooth-fairy has been making frequent visits lately. He finally broke down and said, “mom, I know the tooth fairy isn’t real. I saw dad put the money under my pillow the last time I lost a tooth but I never said anything.” Then he bursted into tears and said, “I feel bad that you are the one that had to give me all that money. I’ve added it up and with all the teeth that I’ve lost over the years, you’ve had to give me over 100 dollars.”
My sweet baby! Oh how I love this child!!
If you know my Luke, he is one of the sweetest kids ever! He is so tender-hearted and would much rather give than receive. I hugged him tight and reassured him that he didn’t hurt my feelings. I explained that I never “had” to give him anything and that I did it because I love him and I wanted to. He asked what I did with all of the teeth over the years. I told him that I’ve kept some and thrown some away. I asked him if he wanted to put this tooth under his pillow one last time and let the “tooth-fairy” come. He smiled and nodded, then he added, “maybe the tooth-fairy can keep this one for a memory.” I hugged him and told him that was the best idea! The tooth-fairy was a little extra special to him last night. ๐
DIY Window Accessory Garland
Alrighty, let’s get to what you all came here for. Some DIY! I’ve had this window accessory garland project in mind for over a year and I’m really not sure what took me so long to do it. I originally mentioned it when I put up my drop cloth curtains. Actually, I do know what took me so long. I wasn’t looking forward to making the wood bead garland. But then I found some for a great price that was already made and that’s what finally gave me the motivation to get this project done!

DIY Window Accessory Garland
Ever thought your windows looked just a little too plain, but you weren't sure what to do with them? I found the perfect solution! Make a DIY Window Accessory Garland to hang in your windows to add some charm.

Instructions
I purchased 6 strands of wood bead garland to cover 3 windows. Each window is 35″ and each strand of garland is 37″ long. If you’d like to make your own wood bead garland, I have a tutorial on how to make DIY wood bead garland.
Tie a hoop on each end of the window accessory (if there isn't one already).
Evenly space 4 command hooks at the top of each window that you want to add the accessory garland. Take the measurement of the inside of your window and divide that by 3 to know how far apart to space your command hooks.
Hang 2 strands of the window accessory garland in each window.
I absolutely love the statement that this window accessory added and I can’t believe I waited this long to get this done.
What do you think? Is this something you would do in your house? I’d love to hear your thoughts below.
Have blessed week, friends! And never stop believing in the tooth-fairy. ๐
Such a great idea to dress up your windows! I love it!
Thank you, Cate! I can’t believe I waited this long to get it done. ๐
I really love it.
Thank you so much, Karen!!
Ah, that made me cry when I read the story about your son. I am glad to know Iโm not the only one who saves their kids baby teeth. Wonderful idea with the garland. You can even change it out during the holidays.
Girl! I went in my room and cried for about an hour after our conversation. The fact that he was more concerned about MY feelings just melted me. This tooth is definitely a keeper that I will always treasure. And what an awesome idea to change up the garland for holidays!
I had three children and gave them back their baby teeth when they turned 18. They thought i was kidding when I told each one I wanted $1,000 for each tooth…………..lol
I have strung thousands seas shells and just had them hanging around. Now I am going to copy your idea except I am going to do it with my shower curtain!
Thank you for a great and very pretty idea!
That’s so awesome! I’ve kept several over the years, but definitely not all of them. ๐
What a great idea!!! I’m so glad you were able to find some inspiration from this.
Brilliant! I know my windows needed something, but didnโt know what to do. This is perfect for me, because itโs not fussy but adds so much interest and texture. Definitely doing this and I may even try some colo glass beads to catch the sun. Thank you for another great idea!!
Yay, Paula!!! I’m so glad you are going to give this a try! I’d love to see yours when you are done. The glass beads are such a great idea!!
Love it! Pinned it!
Aww, thanks so much Cindy!!! I appreciate you my friend!
