Lucky for me, I rarely ever have to do laundry. Nope, I don’t have a maid (but if you want to send one my way, we would besties for life!). I have a husband who actually enjoys doing laundry. Wait. Is that a real thing? Can “enjoy” and “laundry” even be in the same sentence? I have always despised laundry. Like, a lot. And when it got to the point where I had nothing left to wear if I didn’t wash soon, I would just throw it all in the wash together. It just needs to be clean, right? Does it really matter if it’s all sorted by color and such?
Little did I know that I would marry the laundry police who now forbids me from washing clothes because I don’t do it right. Um, okay. I think I won here, but shhhh, don’t tell him that.
He’s so OCD with the laundry that he won’t even let me pick out the laundry detergent. I mean, look at him in Walmart smelling the Persil® ProClean® Laundry Detergent. I smile and think to myself, “pick out whatever scent you want hunny, as long as you keep on doing the laundry.” #livingmybestlife About 2 years ago, I purchased beautiful, fluffy white towels. I just love the look of a crisp white towel. They remind me of the luxury hotel towels.
What I didn’t think about is that we have 3 young boys who have no regard for keeping white towels white.
They’ve used them to wipe up spills, clean mud off of cleats, bathe the dog, wipe blood from a skinned knee, and who knows what else! But even after 2 years, our towels look as new as the day we bought them, thanks to the hubs. We have some of our best conversations right here in the laundry room. I recently asked my husband how in the heck he keeps our towels so white, fluffy, and fresh smelling. And lucky for us (or you, since I don’t have to do laundry – hehe), he was willing to share his laundry hacks.
6 Laundry Hacks to Get Your Towels Bright White
1. Buy a good quality detergent
Hands down, Persil laundry detergent is my husband’s go-to! The stain fighting enzymes help make his job easier. He spends less time pretreating stains before the wash and allows Persil laundry detergent to do its magic and break down stains to get our laundry exceptionally clean. It also breaks down built-in odors to keep your towels smelling fresh and clean! By the way, his favorite scent is Original. It has a fresh clean scent that we all love.
2. Wash towels on HOT
Wash your towels with the hottest temperature possible. Hotter temperatures kill more germs and remove more soil. Our washer has a towel setting, but the setting auto sets the water to warm. My husband manually changes it to HOT when he washes towels.
3. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar with every other wash
Every other time that you wash your towels, add in 1/2 cup of vinegar. When my husband uses the vinegar, he always makes sure to set the washer to double rinse to get rid of the smell.
4. Don’t overload washer
The towels need room to rotate in the water. If you throw too many in (as I would do so I could get done quicker), they won’t agitate well and won’t get as clean. So let’s think quality over quantity.
5. Don’t use fabric softener
Fabric softener can leave a coating on your towels that decreases absorbency. That’s a little counterproductive to a towel’s purpose. Also, the residue can lock in odor and leave your towels smelling less than fresh.
6. Fluff the towels before drying
Before throwing the towels in the dryer, give each one a good shake. This will help separate the cotton looms and keep the towels nice and fluffy. It also decreases the amount of wrinkles. So there you have it. Six simple laundry hacks to keep your towels bright white and smelling fresh! Now my husband wants to know your favorite Persil laundry detergent scent. So the next time you are in Walmart, go ahead and sniff them all and let us know your favorite in the comments below. And if you can snap a selfie of you sniffing, even better! 😉 Be blessed, friends! xoxo
It is so nice to see a husband and wife that do projects together, your laundry turned out magazine worthy!!!!! I would gladly do laundry if ours were as gorgeous as yours!!! Definitely going to pin this for my decorating updates. No selfie today, but I’ll post a picture( just the Persil) on my Instagram and tag you. Your husband and mine are very similar looking except mine is bald🤣.
Ya’ll are so cute! I’m going to try this for sure. Except I’m a little sad about the fabric softener. I didn’t know that and I love that stuff! Do you use the dryer sheets instead? Thanks for the tips!
The vinegar keeps the towels soft and the Persil smells amazing. You will never miss the fabric softener. I promise!
How does your husband feel about using bleach on white towels?
Hi Tammie. He does use bleach occasionally. He adds it to the bleach dispenser and always puts it on a double rinse.
Well, what a sweetie pie! Your husband is so cute! I would never let mine do laundry! His Mom was the worst! I gave him an expensive wool sweater when we dated and she washed it in hot water! Then dried it in the dryer! It would have fit a two year old by the time she got done with it! I about died! He had only worn it one time!!!
Your husband deserves many gold stars! 😉
Oh no! I’m terrible at laundry and even I know better than that. 😂
I learned so much! Please tell your hubby thank you!! I can’t wait for my next load of towels to go through the wash!!
Yay! So glad it was helpful, Kristin! I will let him know. 🙂
What brand of hampers are those?
Hi Whitney! Sorry about the delayed response!! I purchased the hampers at Home Goods, but I don’t see a brand name on them. I’m sure it was on the tag but I don’t remember the brand. Sorry!
