Summer is in full swing in Louisiana. It is HOT y’all! Even with the air on, it seems almost impossible to cool off. I’m not complaining. I mean, I’d like it to be a little cooler, but I’ll take Louisiana heat over living somewhere that gets snow all the time any day of the week. Yes, I realize not everyone may agree, but hey, that’s what makes us who we are. Now let me explain how this Louisiana heat lead to a bedroom makeover.
I was using an alternative down comforter on my bed and I’d wake up sweating every single night. At first I thought I was having hot flashes (I’m telling my age here). But then my husband said he was having the same issue. We realized it must be the comforter.
When MagicLinen reached out and asked me if I’d like to collaborate in exchange for a linen duvet cover, I knew the timing was perfect. And any time I get something new, it gives me the itch to change the entire space (insert my husband’s eye roll here). So I decided to do a summer bedroom refresh makeover.
Summer Bedroom Makeover
The linen duvet cover was provided by MagicLinen. As always, all opinions and reviews are my own.
Brick Wall
The first thing I did was add a faux brick wall behind my bed. I did this in my laundry room and loved the way it turned out. It instantly adds character to a boring space. I want to add shiplap to the rest of the walls, but it will take a while before I can get to that.
Headboard
My husband and I DIYed our headboard last year from old doors. We had them just sitting on the floor behind the bed, but I decided I wanted to raise them up some. I attached them to the wall to give them a little more height.
Nightstands
Next, I changed out our nightstands. I found this gorgeous printer’s cabinet in Texas and put that on my side of the bed. I moved the nightstand that was on my side to my husband’s side. When I think of summer decor, I think of lots of greenery and florals. So I added a plant on each of our nightstands (now let’s see how long I can keep these babies alive).
Bedding
Now for the bedding. MagicLinen is a small, family-run company based in Lithuania, Europe. If y’all haven’t figured out by now, let me just say that I love supporting small businesses! All of their products are made of European high-quality linen fabric which is OEKO-Tex certified.
They have many colors to choose from and I originally chose Blue Melange because I wanted something a little different for summertime. The next morning, I quickly emailed the company back and changed my order to Natural Linen. Y’all know I love my neutrals and I was having a little anxiety over veering away from them. So the Natural Linen is what you see here.
The first night I used the duvet cover, I did not put an insert inside. My husband and I both froze – in this Louisiana heat, mind you. Linen is a very breathable fabric that regulates body temperature. It creates a cool feeling in hot weather and warmth in winter. The second night, I inserted a light weight insert and the temperature was perfect the entire night. Y’all have no idea how happy this makes my husband. He kept threatening to throw my alternative down comforter in the trash, so this was so timely.
This is all I’ve done so far, but I have big plans for the rest of the space. As I mentioned, I want to add shiplap to the rest of the walls. I also ordered bamboo shades for the windows and plan to use drop cloth curtains over them. And I have a faux fireplace that I plan to put between the two windows, but I have to get the shiplap up first. I also need to paint my dresser, and I plan to add a little reading nook.
Being that I currently have zero extra time, it’ll take me a little while to get all of this done. I used to stress over things like that. But lately I’ve been trying really hard to keep things in perspective and find joy in each day, even when I can’t get all the things done.
Enjoy the rest of your week, friends. Be blessed! xoxo
This is absolutely beautiful. Iโm in Louisiana, too, and this is a perfect look. Makes me want a brick wall in my house
Thank you so much, Sharon! The brick wall is relatively easy and adds so much character to a space. I hope you are able to tackle it. You will love it!!
Girl, I feel your โheatโ pains! What are we going to do when summer really gets here?! Hahahaha.
Love what you have done with your bedroom and can not wait to see it when its finished. We are planning a day trip to your area, and definitely making a visit to your shop ๐
Right! ๐ Oh that is so exciting!!! I hope I get to meet you in person!
SO pretty. I love everything.
Thank you so very much!!
I just love this room! So many good things to say about it – the wall paper, old side dresser, head board, chandler. And that one touch of color in the pillow just pops. So very pretty!
I pinned it, and am following!
Have a good weekend
Thank you so very much, Rachelle!!! I appreciate you my friend! ๐
