Can y’all believe it is almost fall? That sounds so crazy to say. I mean, didn’t summer just start? Even though there is already Christmas decor in every store I’ve been in lately, I’m not even ready to go all out with the fall decor yet. So I’ve been thinking about some ways that I can slowly start to incorporate a touch of fall into my decor. Today, I’m going to share 5 ways that you can transition from summer to fall decor with ease. I’m trying to keep these tips budget friendly as well!
If you are visiting from Rosemary & Thyme, welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. I hope you will stay around and visit for a while and find some inspiration here.

5 easy steps to go from summer to fall decor
1. Put your fruit on display.
A quick trip to the grocery store can have you ready for fall in a snap. Using seasonal fruit in your decor is an easy and practical way to add a pop of color and a touch of fall. I styled a few apples with a beautiful wooden letterboard and a few vintage goodies to create a cute fall vignette.
In addition to apples, you could also use peaches, pears, clementines, and last, but certainly not least, pumpkins. Fruit can be beautifully displayed in bowls, baskets, crocks, crates, or jars. Or use your imagination and I’m sure you could come up with many more ideas.
2. Add Pillows & Throws throughout your home.
Another way to easily transition from summer to fall decor is to incorporate a few fall themed throw pillows and some cozy throws. The textures can instantly make your space feel cozy and warm.
I’ve had this “gather here with grateful hearts” pillow for a while now and use it year round, but it’s even more perfect for the fall season. I love placing pillows and throws all around my home. They are cute as decor, but also very practical and functional. We grab them and use them all the time.
I spray painted these mini pumpkins that I picked up from the Dollar Tree and added them in the olive bucket with some greenery that I clipped from my backyard. The birch sticks were an Etsy purchase from last Christmas and work perfect for fall decor as well. I am all about multi-purposing decor items!
You may be wondering why I have that pink velvet pillow with my fall decor. It may or may not coordinate with something really fun that I have been working on for my mantle, so be sure to check back next week for the big reveal. 😉
I picked up a few new throw pillows that I’m loving this year. This cable knit pumpkin pillow from Kirkland’s adds so much texture and fits in perfectly with my neutral decor! The thankful & blessed grain sack pillow was a recent Hobby Lobby find. I also ordered this one from Returning Grace on Etsy and I can’t wait to get it in! Anyone else have a throw pillow addiction? I just can’t help myself!
3. Bring the outdoors in.
That’s right. Head outside and pick up a few pinecones, leaves, and branches to bring the outdoors in. You can’t get any more budget friendly than this my friends.
I snipped these branches that have small green buds on them and placed them in a glass jug in my living room. I used these same cuttings in the olive bucket that I showed above.
Green is the perfect transition color to go from summer to fall decor. Add it in with a few neutrals as a fun pop of color for the fall.
4. Let the smell of fall fill the air.
Isn’t it funny how a simple scent can trigger so many memories and emotions. The smell of pumpkin and I am instantly transported to the fall, no mater what the season is. And this Pumpkin & Oud candle is giving me all the fall feels!
I styled it in a vignette on my coffee table with a few other fall items, such as this burlap pumpkin that I made last year. You can find the DIY for it HERE.
5. Create fall Vignettes around your home
I love creating vignettes all over my home, both for holidays and just every day decor. I made this wooden riser behind my sink last year and I change it up for the seasons. The beautiful sunflowers and little green pumpkin brought this space to fall in an instant.
I hope these 5 tips gave you some inspiration to transition from summer to fall decor. Now all I need is a pumpkin spice latte and some sweater weather and this gal is ready for the fall!

You have done a great job adding touches of fall throughout your home. I agree, little vignettes through your spaces are a perfect way to add fall to your decor. I love your window over your kitchen window, and your vignette on the wooden tray above your sink is great!
Thank you, Chloe! I have a love-hate relationship with the corner window. It’s cute, but I can’t really see much out of it. 😉
Beautiful home and great tips! I love your vignette with the letter board. Just today I found a cute crate that says something about fresh fruit on it at our local thrift. Couldn’t wait to get home and feel it with peaches I had bought last week from the farmer down the street. Your pillows are so pretty and love bringing nature into my home!
hugs,
jann
Thank you so much, Jann!!! I bet the peaches add a beautiful color to your fall decor! I have a slight obsession with throw pillows. 😉
Heather,
Perfection! I love your style. Your five tips are excellent with wonderful examples of each. Seeing the sunshine streaming into your entry makes your home so bright and inviting. The natural wood tones of the church pew and wood floor go so well with the white shiplap walls. Your photography captures every detail. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your fall touches.
Happy Fall,
Judith
P.S. I am enjoying your Instagram feed, also.
Aww, thank you for such a sweet comment with so much encouragement Judith!!! I am completely honored to join such a talented group of ladies on this tour!
Heather, I just love your fresh style! I could move right in and be totally happy:) Your tips are great and I love all your pretty, fall touches! Beautiful photography also!
Thank you so much, Lora! Photography is my nemesis and I probably spend way too much time trying to get it right. Thank you for that little boost of encouragement that I needed!!
These are some wonderful tips to decorate for the Fall! I adore that pew with the shiplap walls! The little vignette behind your sink with the sunflowers is such a wonderfully sunny spot. Sorry I’m late to hopping on the tour, time got away from me but I am so happy to have participated in this fun tour with you!
Thank you so much, Angelia! And no worries, I just had time to take the tour today. This has been a crazy week! I’m honored to join this tour with so many talented ladies!
Heather, your transitional style is gorgeous. I love how you incorporated fall elements but still kept the summer colors. So happy to be on the home tours with you!
Thank you, Michelle! I have a love for neutrals and it’s hard for me to steer away from that. 😉
Heather, great tips and styling! I love your personalized marquis with the apples. You’re so right with the fruits of the season on display as one of the best and easiest ways to decorate. Spray painting the faux pumpkins white is a great idea (note to self!). I was lucky/unlucky with acquiring birch logs – we had three trees in our landscape that didn’t survive birch bore, so I have plenty of logs for decor that I’ve been using for several years. That throw in your entry would make me want to drop everything right there and cozy up with that wrapped around me. We use pillows too, and lots of them – lumbar, under knees in bed while reading, with another on my lap for a book rest, and more as head rests. Cheers to the coming season and happy harvest!
Heather as always it is all so fresh and beautiful! Your letter boards are just the most fun!
I thought your pumpkins were expensive farmhouse decor! What paint did you use, I have no shame in saying I will copy your idea, with credit back to you of course!
Can’t wait to see what how the pink velvet pillow plays in…I will be back to see! Velvet is on trend this year, but it is one of my all time favorite fabrics and I will use it forever.
Your but branches are so lovely, all your vignettes just perfect! Looking forward to all the beauty you share for fall ahead. Thanks so much for joining our tour! Happy summer to fall!
oops *CUT branches (greenery)
Heather, you’ve added so many charming accents for transitioning to fall. Your rolling pins and apple pie vignette is the best! Pinned! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
